Overview

Candela Laser Repair Preventive Maintenance and Handpiece Service

Advanced Medical Incorporated provides independent service and preventive maintenance for the Candela Gentle Pro family and select legacy Candela aesthetic lasers. These systems are known for high use hair removal and vascular and pigment applications, making reliable calibration, fiber delivery, cooling and Dynamic Cooling Device performance essential to day to day operation.

Candela Systems AMI Services

Handpiece and Applicator Service

Candela service is often less about an IPL style recharge and more about the laser delivery chain: fiber condition, handpiece optics, windows, distance gauges, DCD components, connectors and calibration. AMI evaluates the exact configuration and can quote repair or replacement options when a component is not serviceable.

Diagnostics

Common Candela Problems We Diagnose

Select a problem to see how AMI approaches it.

Calibration Failure
Calibration failures can result from an output that is genuinely out of range, a faulty sensor, or an incomplete calibration procedure. AMI follows the correct service procedure and verifies results with calibrated equipment.
Low or Unstable Laser Output
Low or unstable output can come from a degrading source, contaminated optics, a drifting power supply, or a connection issue between the console and handpiece. AMI verifies output with calibrated test equipment to isolate the cause.
Fiber Damage or Poor Transmission
Fiber damage or poor transmission reduces delivered energy and can affect treatment consistency. AMI inspects fiber condition end to end, including connectors and seating, before recommending repair or replacement.
Dirty, Damaged or Misaligned Optics
Dirty, damaged, or misaligned optics reduce energy delivery and can affect patient safety. AMI inspects windows and optical surfaces for contamination, thermal damage, and alignment issues.
DCD or Cryogen Delivery Problems
DCD and cryogen delivery problems can stem from the delivery path, valve, or sensor components that control cooling spray timing. AMI evaluates the full DCD path before isolating a single part.
Handpiece or Distance Gauge Damage
A damaged handpiece or distance gauge can affect both treatment accuracy and safety. AMI inspects the handpiece housing, gauge, and internal components for wear or damage.
Cooling System Faults
Cooling system faults are commonly traced to restricted flow paths, low coolant or cryogen levels, a failing pump, or clogged filters. AMI traces the cooling path to find the restriction.
Flashlamp or Source Deterioration
Flashlamps and laser sources wear with treatment cycles and heat exposure. AMI evaluates source condition and output stability to determine whether cleaning, replacement, or recalibration is needed.
Power Supply or Simmer Start Problems
Power supply and simmer start problems can prevent the system from reaching or maintaining proper firing condition. AMI diagnoses the power electronics and safety chain before recommending repair.
Intermittent Firing or Delivery System Recognition
Intermittent firing or delivery system recognition issues can be caused by a loose connection, a marginal component nearing failure, or contamination at the connector interface. AMI reviews fault history alongside a physical inspection to find the root cause.
Reference

Common Error Codes and Fault Messages

Important. Codes and wording can vary by model, software and configuration. The following are useful search and diagnostic reference points. The exact machine documentation should be verified before internal service or calibration.

Select a code or fault to see what it usually tells the technician to check.

Delivery System or Fiber Not Detected Warning
Inspect fiber seating, connector, delivery assembly and detection components.
Handpiece Bubble or DCD Related Warning
Stop treatment and inspect the delivery and DCD path according to the correct model procedure.
Calibration Failure
Can involve output, fiber transmission, optics, source performance or calibration hardware.
Cooling or Temperature Fault
Inspect circulation, fans, coolant condition and sensors.
Laser Start or Simmer Fault
Requires qualified diagnosis of the source, power electronics and safety chain.
Preventive Maintenance

Why Preventive Maintenance Matters

A Candela PM should verify more than whether the system powers on. AMI recommends inspecting the fiber and handpiece, DCD and cryogen delivery, optics, cooling, filters and fans, electrical and safety systems, error history, calibration and measured output. High use fibers and delivery components can degrade gradually, so a practice may notice longer treatment times or inconsistent performance before a hard fault appears.

What an AMI Preventive Maintenance Visit Can Include

Select a step to see what AMI checks for it.

Incoming Inspection and Customer Reported Symptom Review
AMI starts by reviewing what the practice has observed, including any intermittent issues, and performs a visual inspection of the console, handpieces, and cabling before any testing begins.
Error and Fault History Review Where Accessible
Reviewing stored fault history can reveal recurring issues that are not obvious during a single visit, helping AMI prioritize what to inspect more closely.
Cooling System, Coolant, Flow Path, Filters and Fan Inspection
The cooling system is checked for coolant level, flow restriction, filter condition, and fan operation, since cooling issues are a common root cause of downstream faults.
Handpiece, Cable, Connector, Fiber and Strain Relief Inspection
Handpieces and their cabling are inspected for wear at strain relief points, connector damage, and fiber condition, since these components see the most physical stress.
Treatment Windows, Lightguides and Accessible Optical Surfaces Inspected for Contamination or Damage
Optical surfaces are checked for contamination, coating wear, and physical damage that can reduce energy delivery or affect treatment safety.
Electrical and Safety Function Checks Appropriate to the Platform
AMI verifies that safety interlocks, emergency stops, and other protective functions are operating correctly for the platform being serviced.
Functional Testing of Installed Treatment Modules
Each installed module is exercised to confirm it fires, communicates with the console, and performs as expected under normal operating conditions.
Calibrated Energy and Power Verification When Appropriate Test Equipment and Procedures Are Available
Where calibrated test equipment and the correct procedure are available, AMI verifies actual output against expected values rather than relying on the console display alone.
Written Findings and Recommended Repairs or Parts
The practice receives a written summary of findings, including any recommended repairs or parts, so decisions about further service can be made with clear information.
Why AMI

Why AMI for Candela Service

Candela current Gentle Pro Series includes GentleMax Pro Plus, GentleMax Pro, GentleLase Pro and GentleYag Pro. GentleMax Pro combines 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG capabilities, while the single wavelength Pro systems specialize in one source. Service should therefore be matched to the exact platform and delivery configuration.
