Cynosure Laser Repair Preventive Maintenance and Handpiece Service

Advanced Medical Incorporated provides independent Cynosure and Palomar laser service for practices that need diagnostics, preventive maintenance, console repair or handpiece refurbishment. These platforms can combine IPL, fractional, Alexandrite, Nd:YAG and picosecond technologies, so effective troubleshooting starts by separating handpiece, delivery system, cooling, calibration and console faults.

Cynosure Systems AMI Services

Handpiece and Applicator Service

Depending on model and condition, AMI handpiece work can include flashlamp and flow tube replacement, seals, optical windows, crystals, fiber and delivery components, cooling components, cable and connector repairs, leak correction, internal cleaning and energy output verification. Fractional and laser handpieces may require different procedures from IPL handpieces, so each unit is evaluated individually.

Diagnostics

Common Cynosure Problems We Diagnose

Select a problem to see how AMI approaches it.

Leaking IPL Handpiece
A leaking IPL handpiece often points to a failed seal, a cracked flow tube, or a damaged connector within the cooling circuit. AMI inspects seals, fittings, and internal channels to locate the source before repair.
Low or Inconsistent Energy
Low or inconsistent output can come from a degrading flashlamp, contaminated optics, a drifting power supply, or a connection issue between the console and handpiece. AMI verifies output with calibrated test equipment to isolate the cause.
Flashlamp Deterioration
Flashlamps wear with treatment cycles and heat exposure. AMI evaluates lamp condition and output stability to determine whether cleaning, replacement, or recalibration is needed.
Damaged Window, Crystal or Optical Surface
Damaged treatment windows, crystals, and optical surfaces reduce energy delivery and can affect patient safety. AMI inspects these surfaces for contamination, thermal damage, and structural cracks, and replaces them when they fall outside safe operating condition.
Cooling Restriction or Overheating
Cooling faults are commonly traced to restricted flow paths, low coolant levels, a failing pump, or clogged filters. AMI traces the flow path from reservoir to handpiece to find the restriction.
Fiber or Delivery System Damage
Damage to fiber or delivery system components can interrupt energy transmission or cause inconsistent treatment results. AMI inspects fiber integrity and delivery pathways to determine whether repair or replacement is needed.
Handpiece Not Detected
When a system fails to detect a handpiece, the cause is usually a connector, cable, or identification chip issue rather than the console itself. AMI checks contacts, cabling, and configuration before replacing components.
Calibration Failure
Calibration failures can result from an output that is genuinely out of range, a faulty sensor, or an incomplete calibration procedure. AMI follows the correct service procedure and verifies results with calibrated equipment.
Footswitch or Firing Problem
Footswitch and firing issues are often traced to a worn pedal, a damaged cable or connector, or an interlock responding to an underlying fault. AMI inspects the pedal assembly and firing circuit to find the root cause.
Intermittent Communication Between Handpiece and Console
Intermittent communication can be caused by a loose connection, a marginal component nearing failure, or contamination at the connector interface. AMI reviews fault history alongside a physical inspection to find the root cause.
Reference

Common Error Codes and Fault Messages

Important. Codes and wording can vary by model, software and configuration. The following are useful search and diagnostic reference points. The exact machine documentation should be verified before internal service or calibration.

Select a code or fault to see what it usually tells the technician to check.

Handpiece or Calibration Error
Can be caused by a mismatched, damaged or poorly connected handpiece, calibration data or console side electronics.
Cooling or Flow Fault
Check coolant condition, filters, circulation, tubing, pump and handpiece flow path.
Footswitch or Activation Fault
Inspect pedal, hose or cable, connector and return action before continued use.
Skintel or Accessory Communication Fault
Verify accessory connection and system recognition on supported platforms.
Laser Start or Power Fault
Requires qualified diagnosis of power, source, delivery and safety circuits.
Preventive Maintenance

Why Preventive Maintenance Matters

Preventive maintenance is particularly valuable on high use Icon and Elite systems. PM should include fault history review, cooling system inspection, filters, handpiece connections, optical surfaces, fibers and delivery components, footswitch and interlocks, and output or calibration checks appropriate to the platform. The goal is to identify declining performance before it turns into a treatment day failure.

What an AMI Preventive Maintenance Visit Can Include

Select a step to see what AMI checks for it.

Incoming Inspection and Customer Reported Symptom Review
AMI starts by reviewing what the practice has observed, including any intermittent issues, and performs a visual inspection of the console, handpieces, and cabling before any testing begins.
Error and Fault History Review Where Accessible
Reviewing stored fault history can reveal recurring issues that are not obvious during a single visit, helping AMI prioritize what to inspect more closely.
Cooling System, Coolant, Flow Path, Filters, Fans and Heat Exchange Inspection as Applicable
The cooling system is checked for coolant level, flow restriction, filter condition, fan operation, and heat exchange performance, since cooling issues are a common root cause of downstream faults.
Handpiece, Cable, Connector, Fiber and Strain Relief Inspection
Handpieces and their cabling are inspected for wear at strain relief points, connector damage, and fiber condition, since these components see the most physical stress.
Treatment Windows, Lightguides and Accessible Optical Surfaces Inspected for Contamination or Damage
Optical surfaces are checked for contamination, coating wear, and physical damage that can reduce energy delivery or affect treatment safety.
Electrical and Safety Function Checks Appropriate to the Platform
AMI verifies that safety interlocks, emergency stops, and other protective functions are operating correctly for the platform being serviced.
Functional Testing of Installed Treatment Modules
Each installed module is exercised to confirm it fires, communicates with the console, and performs as expected under normal operating conditions.
Calibrated Energy and Power Verification When Appropriate Test Equipment and Procedures Are Available
Where calibrated test equipment and the correct procedure are available, AMI verifies actual output against expected values rather than relying on the console display alone.
Written Findings and Recommended Repairs or Parts
The practice receives a written summary of findings, including any recommended repairs or parts, so decisions about further service can be made with clear information.
Why AMI

Why AMI for Cynosure Service

Cynosure describes Icon as a multi purpose platform with seven handpieces and Elite iQ as a dual wavelength 755/1064 nm platform. That variety is exactly why model specific diagnosis matters. AMI can help practices determine whether the failure is in the console, handpiece, delivery system or supporting cooling and electrical system before recommending repair.
